Year 1 concluded their learning about Brunel with a trip to the SS Great Britain in Bristol. What a fabulous experience this was! We got to explore the dry dock and the bottom of the ship, including the huge propeller and anchor, as well as the dock museum which included various original parts of the ship and , of course, also the ship in all its glory. When exploring the ship, we were able to go all the way below deck to explore the engine room and storage spaces where they used to keep their supplies for the 60 day long journey. On the middle deck, we saw numerous tiny bunkbeds on which the passengers had to sleep, as well as the long dining room out of which flowed a number of smaller rooms, such as the medical room. Last, but not least, the top deck. We explored every part and found an animal keep with chickens and a horse as well as small grow houses with various plants, such as orchids and herbs. Our favourite activity was re-enacting cleaning the decks with the brooms.

On the way home, our coach driver took us underneath the Clifton Suspension Bridge! We were amazed how high up it is!

The trip gave us all the opportunity to embed our learning and experience history first hand.

A big thank you to the parents who were able to give up their time to help out on the day. Your support make days like this possible.

Thank you for everyone's continued support.
